The “Lego sanity check” has always been whether it’s above or below the prevailing per-brick set cost. For more moderately sized kits, the index was around 10 cents a piece as much as fifteen years ago, with Star Wars or other licensed kits or complex (Technic)
tending toward 12 cents, and back toward 10 (or below!)
for absurd mega-kits like the Death Star one.
This kit being $150 for 1500 pieces is actually in line with current prevailing prices and slight (very slight) discount for a high-count kit.
You’ve got to figure that the per-piece margin has always been slimmer than one would think, and the QC and assurance of correct counts are proportional to piece numbers, production costs for a multiple piece kit being higher than for, say, bulk purchase of four stud pieces in white.
Lego pricing is what it is.

I’ll pay $
0.10/brick for a model that I really like. So yes, solid buy.

That is one angry lego mustang.

I wish they would make more Technic integrated versions of these cars, that still looked like them. I am sometimes disappointed in the simplicity of them just trying to make sure they look like the thing they are emulating.

I made this joke on the Giz thread, but are they going to offer a $0 down /96 month loan?

Thanks for filling me in on that. I completely missed that this has 1500 pieces.

It never occurred to me to consider that, and I had no idea there were 1,500 pieces!

It’s also $100 to LEGO, and $50 to Ford for licensing.

I’m just excited that now Lego Torque Thrusts can haunt B-Man's dreams!

I said the same thing when I saw the price of the LEGO Robie House at $200. Now the cheapest one on Amazon is $600 and it isn’t even on eBay, so I’ll never have it.

I’m not often drawn to a Lego set, and the GT Mustang isn’t a particular favorite car of mine. But this kit looks like fun, though I’ll spend my entertainment budget on other things.

Dude: that’s pretty esoteric.

Ja. In that view, Lego are cutting their own throat on the price and it’s cheap as hell.

I had to write a 20-page paper on it in college and today I don’t even have a damn LEGO set to show for it.

LEGO has already desensitized me to their costs. After a few $300+ sets, these seem like a relative deal.
It will pair nicely with the new 911 RSR set they just released. Just need to wait for double VIP points and it will be mine.... oh yes, it will be mine. At least I can argue that my boys helps me assemble mine. We bond over LEGO’s so it’s not all bad. The Chiron set took us over 3-4 months to build.

You know what? That is the most
fantastic
reply anyone has posted for me in possibly forever on Oppo. And yes, the Lego Architecture model would have been cooler than coolest.

So this Mustang GT, is this something that you won’t assemble in a couple of hours?

I love Creator expert vehicle series, except for the Aston Martin ... eww. This one is a must buy for me. Lots of parts and functions. Sure $150 a lot considering the F40 was $99 with just a few hundred parts less than the mustang.
LEGO is quite expensive now days and I only buy sets I cannot absolutely live without.

I think if you are a person who cannot live without certain Lego sets, this might be one of those sets you cannot live without. I mean, I don’t have that problem, but this set tries to make me develop that problem.

I built the Lego Rally Car last month, which was just over 1,000 pieces. It took me four days at about 3 hours per day.
